How to claim with Crufts Pet Insurance

For treatments over £750, your vet can request pre-authorisation. Full clinical history and itemised estimate required.

Dental info: Your dog must have had a dental check within 12 months before the condition arose. Treatment must occur within 6 months of the check unless delayed for health reasons.

Your excess is your contribution towards a claim. It helps keep premiums affordable and is made up of a fixed excess and, where applicable, a percentage excess. Full details can be found on your Policy Schedule. 

Yes - as long as the condition started after your policy began and the treatment has already taken place. All claims must include an invoice from your vet. 

Any sign of illness, disease, behavioural issue, or injury that your dog has before the policy starts.

For example, if your dog has a sore front leg before the policy starts that turns out to be elbow dysplasia then the first clinical sign of that illness is pre-existing to the policy.

Crufts Pet Insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions.

Yes, if it was prescribed by your vet. You’ll need a copy of the prescription and receipts. 

Yes, subject to the dental health check requirements outlined above. This helps ensure early treatment and better long-term dental health. 

If your dog is referred to a specialist, you may be able to claim for travel and accommodation costs. Receipts and written details are required. 

If Overseas Travel cover forms part of your policy, or was added at least 14 days before travel, you can claim for eligible treatment abroad. Claims are paid in pounds sterling. Please check your policy for full details. 

If you’re hospitalised unexpectedly and have added this cover, you may claim boarding or pet-sitting costs with supporting documents. 

To claim under this section, you must have added it to your pet’s policy before you became unwell. 

When you leave hospital, obtain a medical certificate stating your medical condition and the number of days you were in hospital. Send us this medical certificate along with: 

• The receipt from the boarding facility.
• If you paid someone to look after your dog, a receipt with their full name and address to support your claim. 

If you are still unable to care for your pet after you leave hospital, we will also need: 

• Your hospital admission and discharge note.
• The receipt showing each day your dog was in the boarding facility, or looked after by a pet sitting service.

Depending on your cover, you may claim costs related to finding your dog, including advertising and rewards, subject to limits.
